You may remember getting invites to one of three secret societies -- the Illuminati, the Dragon or the Templar. Perhaps you took the quiz  "Which secret societies do you belong to?" on Dark Days are Coming. This ingenious way to get people interested was set in motion by Funcom to promote their game The Secret World a few years back. Seriously, who doesn't love secret societies and exclusive clubs?

Recently announced, Funcom and EA Partners will co-publish this long awaited MMO.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Funcom, one of the world-leaders in the development of massively multiplayer online games,” says David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. “We are very excited to be able to take part in the growing online gaming category with such a highly anticipated title as ‘The Secret World’.”

The Secret World is a MMO for PC where players are given total freedom to create their characters, without the restriction of classes or levels. In the game, you will join one of three world-famous secret societies and journey the world to locations such as Egypt, New England, London, New York, and Seoul.

Traveling the world has always been a lifetime goal of mine. However, with so many remote places to visit, bringing a console along to play videogames is out of the question.  Thankfully, Electronic Arts (EA) has releases their second installment of Rock Band for both iPhone and iPad platforms called Rock Band Reloaded. Singing along to some of my favorite songs while climbing the top of a mountain anywhere in the world is now a very possible scenario!

wackylands boss review

Last week Chillingo, the publisher behind many popular iPhone games that was recently acquired by Electronic Arts, released yet another game for $0.99 on the App Store. The setting behind WackyLands Boss is quite unusual. Instead of playing a hero, or controlling an army, going after a boss monster, you are the boss. You get to create, customize and equip your own boss, and then go after hordes of heroes.

Interview: Hadouken!

Hadouken!

Hadouken, a special move belonging to Capcom’s influential game Street Fighter, can now also be associated to a band just as influential.

Hadouken! has been making waves with their grime, techno, new rave music in the UK and around the world. But putting this band in a genre is just criminal. Hadouken! will hit you in the face and finish you off with an uppercut with their high energy beats that will move the body of even the stiffest of men – even dead ones.

If you have not yet heard of Hadouken!, you soon will. EA (Electronic Arts) /Artwerk has picked up this band to enrich our EA gaming experiences with sounds that can only be called one thing – awesome.

If I haven’t interested you yet into checking this band out, you are just crazy.  I highly recommended giving this band a spin. For the Masses, Hadouken!’s album, can be found on iTunes, and can be downloaded here. YOU GO NOW!

Now that you’ve downloaded the album and loved it, it’s time to get up close and personal. I had the opportunity to chat with guitarist Dan Rice about the band, videogames, and all things music.

A Weapon of Truly Epic Proportions: Alice’s Vorpal Blade

Posted by Drea Avellan Categories: Culture, Electronic Arts,

DescriptionI may not be a blood-thristy twisted Alice, but I do enjoy beautiful things. In commemoration of the original Alice, Epic Weapons, in collaboration with Electronic Arts, have created a replica of the Vorpal Blade from American McGee’s Alice. It is adorned with etched molds which replicate this weapon in all its beautiful detail. Since this is a high quality replica made from Japanese stainless steel and standing at 18 5/8 inches in length, Epic Weapons is offering only 1,000 of these commemorative Alice knifes. They are now available on the Epic Weapons website for $89.95, so get them while they are still available! Stand is not included, but available for purchase for $19.95. And while you are at it, I think you should send me one too.

iPad: What it means for Apple and gaming

iPad AsphaltYesterday, many rumors were put to rest with the release of the Apple iPad. People were excited, joyful, angry, disappointed, or just plain indifferent. Whatever you stance, you had some kind of reaction to Apple’s announcement of the iPad. Is it a giant iPhone? A female hygiene product? A cool netbook replacement? That’s for you to decide.

Whatever iPad really is, and regardless of what it’s competing against, one thing is clear–Apple wants to make a dent in the gaming industry.  Developers and publishers were present at yesterday’s conference, including Gameloft and Electronic Arts (EA,) to show off their games running on the iPad, including a full-screen version of Need for Speed. EA made its presence clear, by announcing during the presentation they are to support the iPad platform with future titles built specifically for the device. This should come as no surprise to most, as EA has been a huge supporter of the and iPod touch as a gaming platform.

Dead Space Extraction Interview and Footage

The Dead Space franchise is headed to the Nintendo with Dead Space Extraction. earlier today, Visceral Studio announced that the game, which launches in the US on September 29, has gone gold. They’ve released a boss trailer, along with interview snippets with the developers of the game, detailing what we should expect from the Wii version of Dead Space. Hit the video for the full scoop, but here’s a hint: just because this is a Wii title, don’t expect the horror elements to be any less impressive than they were in the original. We’re excited.

EA Summer Showcase from ComicCon 2009

EA Summer Showcase ComicCon Left 4 Dead 2

San Diego ComiCon gives us the opportunity to geek out on all things pop culture for four days – not including preview night. But we all know four days is never enough! held a summer showcase where we got access to demo most of their upcoming game titles without the sweating, over-crowding and amazing smell a comicon can offer.  The EA Summer Showcase was held at the Onyx in San Diego as somewhat of a pre-con treat.  Getting to play Brutal Legends while nibbling on some amazing free cheese and slider burgers is what I believe heaven will be like.

But along with the cheese also came other great games: G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra, Left 4 Dead 2, The Saboteur, Dead Space Extraction, Dragon Age: Origins,  Hasbro Family Game Night 2, Littlest Pet Shop Online, Madden NFL 10,  MySims Agents, Need for Speed NITRO, NERF “N-Strike” Elite,  Spore Hero and Spore Hero Arena.

Spoilers? Brutal Legends can have my babies – like now.
